Course summary

This programme is suitable for outstanding students who have an interest in advanced research-based study. This programme offers you a route to further study at doctoral level or for a research position in industry.

  • Undertake an extended (one-year) individual research project carried out as part of one of our established research groups, combined with selected taught modules.
  • Publish at least one conference paper as part of your research.
  • Gain solid theoretical and practical research competence in your chosen field of study and enhance your employability.

Assessment method

Modules are assessed through a combination of coursework and written examinations. You will also be assessed through an individual project. The MSc research project will be conducted under close supervision throughout the academic year, and is evaluated by thesis, presentation and viva examination.


Entry requirements

A 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in a relevant subject. Students should identify in their application the relevant research group. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal. This programme requires ATAS clearance. Students who are not EEA or Swiss nationals may require ATAS clearance to undertake this course. The CAH3 code for this course is CAH11-01-01. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal, which must identify the intended research project supervisor. For international students we require English language qualifications IELTS 6.5, TOEFL score of 92 (internet based).
