Course summary

The BA (Hons) Esports focuses on the business of esports. You'll learn everything required to host small- and large-scale events including developing skills for single player and multi-player team events. You'll have the opportunity to create business plans to build teams and create online communities and promote events through digital marketing. You'll also explore the culture of esports, its audience and fan base as well as a variety of the most popular current game genres.  As the sector grows, the ethical and legislative regulations are trying to keep pace and you’ll learn how these issues are affecting the esports environment. You will benefit from a mixture of theoretical input but also the links between theory and practice to ensure the relevance of your studies to employability. This means you'll develop solid business principles alongside contemporary sector knowledge, and plenty of hands-on experience working in areas related to your field of study.

Assessment method

80% coursework, 20% practical. Assessment tasks are mainly spread across the year to make the workload manageable. Assessment methods include group works, exams and individual work including essays, presentations, case studies, professional development and practical activities depending on the nature of the course. All grades count towards your module mark. More details will be included in the student handbook and module guides. Feedback is provided within 15 working days in line with UEL's assessment and feedback policy.
