Course summary
Fashion Marketing is a divergent and fast paced industry that spans multiple creative and commercial disciplines and engages with consumers across cultures, platforms and generations. Here you will learn to leverage innovative theoretical and practical approaches to marketing, communication, content creation and visual storytelling to produce creative outcomes that have the potential to drive trends and inform opinion. With an agile curriculum that is designed to respond to change, be that social, political or technological, this course will prepare you with the skills and knowledge required to flourish in the fashion marketing industry of today and tomorrow. The theoretical underpins what we do here. You will learn to predict trends, develop strategies, understand consumers and promote brands and products. This will be the foundation for the creative outcomes and visual outputs you will realise, supported by your expanding technical capability and practical knowledge, using our professional standard resources and equipment, including CAD and Adobe suites, photographic studio and extensive workshops. Employability, and your progression into graduate fashion marketing roles, informs all the teaching on the course. You will work on live briefs for industry clients and brands, gaining real world experience and growing your networks. This can be augmented by undertaking our optional placement year, to further expand your professional capabilities and career horizons. Collaborative working, as part of creative teams, is the norm professionally, and this course offers both formalised opportunities, working with courses such a Fashion Photography and Filmmaking, and provides the framework for you to collaborate independently with creatives across the institution and beyond.
Modules
Year one – You will be introduced to the foundational skills and knowledge of fashion marketing. Learning how to respond to briefs in informed ways, underpinned by research and experimentation to develop effective and evidence-based solutions to the problems posed. You will consider the historical, ethical and commercial dimensions of the work you produce, and begin to develop your own voice and individual creative practice. Year two – Will see you engaging with a range of live projects, enabling you to both further develop and apply your theoretical and practical skills to real world problems. Creatively exploring diverse media and platforms, and considering future development in fashion marketing and beyond, to imbue your practice with ongoing currency in our changing world. Beyond this, we will focus on you, your aspirations and potential career trajectories and support you to progress, whether via a placement year or more informal placement opportunities. Year three – You will consolidate your in-depth knowledge of developing fashion marketing strategies and campaigns to produce a creative and professional portfolio. The self-directed final year takes an integrated approach, synthesising sustained academic research with innovative creative exploration. This culminates in the realisation of a graduate project which reflects your individual philosophy and career aspirations as a fashion marketing professional and is designed to enable you to demonstrate the skills required by potential employers.
