Course summary

Psychologists explore behaviour – the ways our minds work, how we think and interact with the world, and why we react in the ways we do.  Our course covers the fundamental and essential skills required for further psychology study. These include academic writing and reading skills, personal development and reflection, research and analytical skills, introduction to research and practice across a variety of areas of psychology, and a critical understanding and application of core psychological theories to real-world issues. Thereby, equipping you with knowledge and skills to progress on to degree-level study. The course aims to build a sense of community among students and staff, develop your confidence, and help you take a formidable step in your education and future career. At the end of your foundation year, you’ll have the option to stay on the BSc (Hons) Psychology course or transfer to BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology, BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy, BSc (Hons) Psychology with Neuroscience or BSc (Hons) Educational Psychology for a more specialised graduate degree. In addition, you will have access to experimental testing laboratories, including software for running and analysing studies in cognitive neuroscience, and systems for eye-tracking and for measuring physiological responses.

  • Study Abroad Year- Immerse yourself in a vibrant culture at one of our partner universities in Spain, Italy, Sweden, Malaysia, USA, Canada or Australia. This opportunity is available after the completion of third year and gives you a global perspective on psychology.
  • Placement Year- The placement year, available after third year, offers the chance to gain hands-on work experience in a professional setting, and apply the knowledge gained during your degree to real-world work situations. You’ll develop your transferable skills and network whilst helping you to stand out to potential employers in future job applications.
