International trade law is increasingly in the spotlight given economic globalisation, trade wars, world events like Brexit. In this flexible online LLM, you’ll earn the specialist legal skills you need to succeed in this fascinating and challenging field. You’ll learn from expert academics, lawyers, and active researchers in this LLM that you can tailor to you.

Modules

Your dissertation is completed fully online over the summer with preparatory work required during the January term. Typically, it takes 24 months to complete the LLM part-time. To study part-time, we recommend you take no more than 30 credits per term. In this flexible degree, you can also take breaks between courses.

Assessment method

This degree is assessed online via methods including online discussion boards, essays and quizzes.

Entry requirements

A 2:2 (upper-second) honours degree (or equivalent) in Law. Relevant practical experience in a related field will also be beneficial. These are our minimum entry requirements. They are given as a guide and do not guarantee entry.

To study for a postgraduate degree at the University of Aberdeen it is essential that you can speak, understand, read, and write academic English fluently. These skills will allow you to understand lectures, produce high standards of written work, and perform well in examinations. We can assess your English language proficiency through a variety of means: through your nationality, through the qualifications you gained in high school, through the degree you undertook or are undertaking at university, or through a recognised English language test. Postgraduate Higher requirements are used by the Schools of Business; Divinity, History and Philosophy; Education; Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture; Law; and Social Sciences. The MSc in Oil and Gas Enterprise Management and the MSc in Integrated Petroleum Geoscience also make use of the Postgraduate Higher requirements. Please note certification must be within the two years prior to commencement of your degree programme, unless otherwise stated.

Additional fee information

This indicative cost is based on 180 credits of study over two years, starting in January 2026. The fee quoted above is based on you starting your studies with us in the 2025/26 academic year. Our tuition fees will rise by 3% for the 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29 academic years. Our indicative cost includes a 3% fee rise each year.
