Solent University (Southampton) has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
With a wide range of high-end film equipment, a passionate teaching team and a reputation for producing well-rounded graduates, film production at Southampton Solent University will help prepare you for life as a film production professional. Solent University’s media academy is a hub for creative students at Solent, with three green screen TV studios, a large visual recording studio with capacity for 200 seated audience members and a range of radio and music production facilities. Our large edit suites feature Mac Pro computers and the full Adobe Creative Suite for editing, colour grading and special effects. Students studying in the School of Media Arts and Technology can benefit from a schedule high calibre of guest speakers and visiting fellows. Recent talks have been given by Anne V. Coates (Oscar winning editor), Paul Franklin (Oscar winner for visual effects on Inception), Brian Tufano (cinematographer on Trainspotting, Quadrophenia and Billy Elliot) and Sir Alan Parker (director of Fame, Evita, Bugsy Malone, The Commitments and Mississippi Burning). Assessment method
The course is assessed through portfolios, group screenings of film productions, presentations, pitching sessions, report writing, research and development, live client briefs, peer assessment, reflective evaluations and work experience journals.

International applicants
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are: IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component-TOEFL is only valid for EU students or equivalent. Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University. The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course. Note to all international students requiring a visa: All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Southampton Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Southampton Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office. • Direct entry to years 2 (Level 5) or 3 (Level 6) We welcome applications from students currently studying a Foundation Degree, DipHE, HNC, HND or modules of an undergraduate degree course at another university, who wish to enter directly into Years 2 or 3 of one of our undergraduate degree courses. • Level 5 (year 2) entry To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 120 undergraduate credits at Level 4 or a CertHE in a related subject area. • Level 6 (year 3) entry To directly enter the third year of this course you need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 240 undergraduate credits (at Levels 4 and 5), a DipHE, Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area.
