Course summary

The Raindance Film School’s BA (Hons) in Film and Performing Arts Practices is a three-year practical course accredited by Pearson and De Montfort University. Designed for aspiring and experienced practitioners, the program allows students to elevate their academic or professional experience in producing, directing, screenwriting, or acting to a BA level. Students will complete a Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in the first two years (validated by Pearson) followed by our Top-Up BA (Hons) degree validated by De Montfort University. A standout feature is the opportunity to undertake a four-week film project at our campus in Mexico.

Modules

Year 1 All students study common modules in their first year to build the foundation of the study programme Modules: The Performing Arts Industry (Pearson-set) Professional Development Acting 1 Voice and Speech for Actors Acting for Camera Devising Film Studies Script writing for Film & Television Year 2 In the second year, students start to specialise in specific areas of filmmaking, developing their skills further and working in teams on industry-style projects. Modules: Creative Research Project (Pearson-set) Working in the Performing Arts Industry Acting 2 Drama Directing Performance Project Auditioning Movement for Actors Year 3 In the final year, students can choose one (double) or two (single) specialist pathways in either Acting, Directing or Screenwriting. All students will produce their own film projects and develop advanced skills in film and television practices. Assessment is via practical creative projects, written reflective reports of your work and research assignments. Modules: Critical Research (15 Credits) Specialist Negotiated Practical Project (45 Credits) Film & TV Business Practices (15 Credits) Film Practices Final Project (45 Credits)

Assessment method

Assessment is through a series of assignments including research modules, hands-on practical exercises and group projects. Units are interlinked to replicate “real world” scenarios and offer the opportunity for students to build a range of skills to maximise employment opportunities.

Entry Requirements for Year 3 240 credits from a relevant Higher National Diploma (HND), Foundation Degree (FdA/FdSc) or equivalent international qualification in a relevant subject or 240 credits from years 1 and 2 of an undergraduate degree (BA/BSc) in a relevant subject at a different institution.
