Course summary

Our BA Arts with Community is for people who want to explore performing and/or production arts in community contexts. We are looking for self-determined learners who are motivated by the positive impact that the arts can have. This course is for you if you want to investigate the performing and/or production arts creatively, collaboratively and ethically with a range of people and settings. It will be underpinned by practice, theory and research. Whether you are a performer, writer, musician, dancer, storyteller, production artist or filmmaker, this course will encourage you to develop your own artform, facilitation practice and voice as a socially engaged practitioner.

Principal study options

During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:

Single specialism

Only one instrument is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument formatively, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.

Instrument/specialisms

For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.

International applicants

Currently around 20% of our students come from outside the UK. Between them, they represent over 60 different nationalities and add a rich diversity to the Conservatoire. Audition recordings are welcomed from international applicants.

Interview

An interview will be held at our RCS Renfrew Street Campus as part of the entrance process. At the interview, we will find out more about you, your artform practice and experience, and your interest in community arts.

Portfolio

You will need to submit a short written piece on why community arts is important to you (500 words). We will provide guidelines for this three weeks before we give you your interview date. You will need to create an Accepd account to submit this prior to your interview.

Other

You will participate in a group workshop at RCS to help us learn more about how you work with others.
