Course summary

Physical Geography is the field that answers questions about Earth’s processes, why natural disasters happen, how climate is affected and a lot more. If you want to get stuck into the study of the physical processes of our planet, then our Physical Geography BSc(Hons) degree could be for you. You’ll have the opportunity to study modules including dynamic living systems, earth processes, people and place, ecological adaptation and conservation management and soil contamination and ecological restoration. Why Study Physical Geography BSc(Hons) at University of Huddersfield? Away from campus, you’ll gain relevant real-world experience. In the third year of the course, you’ll put your knowledge and skills to the test in an optional work placement in your area of interest. In the final year you’ll have the chance to develop and enhance your independent research skills as part of the geographical research project module. Learning through doing is important for any geographer in training, so look forward to field trips and fieldwork throughout the course. You’ll have the option to participate in fieldwork day trips in and around Yorkshire, as well as to other parts of the UK and overseas. This course will prepare you for a variety of potentially exciting careers. You could work in the industry as a planning ecologist or environmental impact officer, tackle key geography issues as a policy advisor or GIS analyst, or conduct research as a climate change scientist. Assessment method

On this course you'll have the opportunity to examine the contemporary landscape and the processes which have influenced its formation before following specific routes in your final year. In the final year, you'll have the chance to complete a dissertation that includes a piece of independent research. You’ll be taught through a series of lectures, seminars, and, where appropriate, relevant field study and/or laboratory work. Assessment will include project work, written assignments (reports/essays), presentations and examinations. The final year research project contributes to your degree classification.
