Course summary

Our MSc in Drug Discovery, Development and Translation will equip you with the expertise needed to navigate the complex drug discovery and development process, from initial discovery of active molecules to the translation of research into effective therapies. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, you will learn to manage drug development projects, make critical decisions, and apply translations science to bring innovative therapies from the lab to the patient. This postgraduate programme is ideal for graduates with a background in pharmacy, pharmacology, chemistry or biosciences, who are looking to enhance their leadership skills for the pharmaceutical industry, or those with a passion for research in drug development. Whether you're currently in the industry or seeking to enter this dynamic field, this MSc will enhance your skills and prepare you for the challenges of modern drug development.

Modules

Modules typically include: Research Innovation and Management, Drug Design and Discovery, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Formulation and Drug Delivery.

Assessment method

All learning for this course will be taught on-campus, through a mixture of classroom, laboratory and tutorial sessions designed to maximise student-learning experience. Assessments are constructed of case studies, short-answer questions, presentations and practical laboratory elements, constructed to ensure continual learning and interactive assessment opportunities.

Entry requirements

• Applicants should have (or be predicted to achieve) a 2:2 undergraduate degree* or equivalent in one of the following subjects: Pharmacy, Biomedical / Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry or Biochemistry, Genetics or Medical Genetics, Genomics, Human Biology or Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Medicine (MBBCh), Medical Pharmacology, Nanomedicine, Veterinary, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences and related topics • 50% or higher in a Chemistry module AND in a 2nd relevant module (e.g. Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biology, Anatomy) as part of undergraduate degree • International applicants: IELTS 6.5 (at least 6 in each component) or equivalent • Previous research experience is not required however, any research-based experience gained during a BSc can be beneficial in supporting your final MSc research project *If the minimum requirement of a 2:2 degree has not been met, we may consider applicants who have at least one year of research experience in a laboratory setting (either in academia or industry e.g., chemistry, biology, or pharmacology labs), on a case-by-case basis
