Course summary
Course overview: In today’s unpredictable and ever-changing world, global events make headline news and set the political agenda. The MA International Journalism equips you with the right skills to join newsrooms and produce journalism across multiple platforms, to an international audience. It will also prepare you for life as an international correspondent, producing news for home or foreign audiences. During your master’s you will learn the full range of multimedia production skills across print, digital, audio and video. Core modules will teach you about international storytelling and production and how to be an international correspondent. You will also have the option to take specialist genre modules, such as reporting the Middle East and North America, and humanitarian reporting. You can also learn the fundamentals of audience engagement, so you can produce journalism which gets seen and heard, and which makes a real impact. The compulsory Career Development and Work Experience module will equip you with the appropriate knowledge and guidance to help give you the edge when it comes to securing your first international role. As one of the longest-established Journalism departments in the UK, we have deep-rooted connections to the industry and an extensive network of alumni who operate both in the UK and abroad. Who is this for? This professional/practice master’s enables you either to start a career in journalism, or to undertake continuing professional development. It is suitable for those who have the required academic qualifications, but without any prior experience in journalism. It is also suitable for those with journalistic experience, but who may not have the academic qualifications normally required, or might have both the academic qualifications, and journalism experience, but want to enhance their knowledge in Interantional Journalism. It appeals to those looking for entry level jobs, those seeking a career as a freelancer, or students who want to work as independent journalists, or launch their own start-up. The course is offered on a full and part-time, making it ideal for those with existing family or career commitments.
