Course summary
Security and Intelligence is a key and contemporary global issue. Our Security and Intelligence degrees will provide students with an intellectual understanding and pragmatic application of Security Studies, Intelligence Studies and Security Sciences in the analysis of relevant contemporary problems and international security issues. The Foundation year route is for students who may not have the necessary academic profile for entry onto the three-year course or who have been out of formal education for a while and would like to enhance their skills and capabilities first. After the second year of study, students choose whether to study the BSc pathway or the BA pathway. The BA pathway is theoretically and conceptionally based, whilst the BSc pathway is analytical, investigative and operational. Both pathways cover a range of subject areas, including International Relations, History, Security Studies and Policing, Criminology, Sociology, Forensics, and Law. Assessment method
Assessment is varied, offering you the opportunity of working very much to your strengths. Each module includes a practice or ‘formative’ assessment for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark. Each module has one or more formal or ‘summative’ assessment. Essays, portfolios, case study work, chronologies, primary source analysis, book reviews, individual assessed presentation, and assessed groups work are included in our assessment strategy.
