BSc (Hons) Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health is an ideal degree for anyone with a keen interest in nutrition and health. This course is designed to give you a deep understanding of Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle while equipping you with practical skills and knowledge. You will also develop important and transferable skills, such as leadership, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking, which are valuable in many industries. As part of the programme, you will have opportunities to earn additional awards, such as gym instructor, personal trainer, and first aid qualifications. These additional qualifications will enhance your employability and practical skills. You will also get hands-on experience in health assessment and dietary analysis activities, addressing real-world problems and cases. Our nutrition laboratory is equipped with nutrition-specific resources and dietary analysis software, providing a professional environment for your studies. The programme covers a range of assessment methods, including oral and written presentations, exams, case studies, peer assessment, work experience reports, and project-based work. Upon completion of the programme, you will be eligible for Registered Associate Nutritionist status, allowing you to use the title ‘A. Nutr.’ This professional recognition will set you apart in the job market and demonstrate your expertise in nutrition. Throughout the course, you will explore various aspects of health and nutrition. You will learn about chronic disease, meal planning, nutrition for sport and exercise, and public policy. You will also study psychology and human performance, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence health and fitness levels. Our programme is designed to prepare you for a successful career in community health, public health, or any role focused on improving health and promoting lifestyle and nutrition. Modules
You will learn how nutrition and exercise affect the body and impact upon the individual’s health and well-being. In addition, you will examine the psychological and sociological factors which may influence health-related behaviour. Our aim is to blend theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing you for real-world challenges in health, nutrition, and lifestyle. We emphasise hands-on learning, critical thinking, and professional development to ensure you are well-equipped for your future career. Year 1 In your first year, you will build a solid foundation in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health. You will study basic human biology, the principles of nutrition, and the role of physical activity in health. Additionally, you will develop key skills in communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking through a range of engaging activities and assessments. Assessment method
The skills of being able to decipher health and nutrition related research and transfer this into ‘real world’ practical applications for individual and community health are developed and assessed over the three years of study. To achieve this, the strong academic focus of the degree is supported by practical modules in health promotion, dietary analysis and fitness and health assessments. Whilst on the course, students learn how to present a balanced evidenced argument through their formal written work, as well as via individual and group presentations. Within the final year, students will design and conduct their own research project or literature review in a specialist area of their choice. Specific types of assessments include; essays, laboratory reports, presentations (group and individual), practical tasks, examinations (seen and unseen papers).
