Course summary

This course has been designed with expertise from both industry practitioners in scouting and recruitment, as well as academic experts who are active within the sector. Students participating in this course will be introduced to the various facets of scouting and recruitment, through modules focused on the identification, selection, retention, and securing of talent. The course equips students with the skills and knowledge to identify, acquire the talent and make the pitch in the boardroom to sign the player who you think will be the next big thing. The course encompasses all that is required to be successful within this field and offer a perspective to the industry that is not only research informed, but is generated from the shared experiences of the experts you will be around. In addition to numerous partners we work with you will also be taught by recognised professionals within this field, including scouts who have worked at top premier league clubs and at international level across both the male and female game. This course is the first in the UK to be officially endorsed by the Professional Football Scouts Association (PFSA) who are the world leader in football performance education. Access to these resources are replicable of what is required when entering into this field as a career across the world.

Modules

Modules include: Football Statistics and Data Analysis; An Interdisciplinary Approach in Football; Applied Research Project; Applied Talent Detection, Identification and Selection; Recruitment Strategies in Football; Applied Performance Feedback.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

How to apply

International applicants

We do not currently hold an international licence. This means that, at this moment, we are unable to accept international applications who require a student visa to study in the UK. If you already hold a visa that allows full time masters study in the UK and would like to submit an application, please upload relevant copies of any previous or current UK visas and a colour copy of a valid passport as part of your online application. As the UK has now left the EU, all applicants from outside the British Isles who do not hold a current British passport would also require a visa to study in the UK. Applicants who hold pre-settled or settled status are eligible to study with UCFB on campus. Entry requirements

A personal statement highlighting your alignment to the course in which you are applying for, how this feeds into your future career ambitions and why you feel a place on this course should be offered to you. (This is required for all applications) Ideally, a 2:1 or above in a relevant subject (relevant subjects include areas of study such as, coaching, performance analysis, talent development, sports science). If holding a degree of 2:2, at least two years' experience will be expected to be demonstrated in any of the following fields: Scouting; Coaching; Recruitment; Performance Assessment (e.g. Sports Science) AND a level 1 qualification in any of the following fields: Scouting; Talent ID; Talent ID; or Coaching. If holding no degree, a degree in a non-related subject or a 3rd class degree, at least 3 years' experience is required in the following areas: Scouting; Coaching; Recruitment; Performance Assessment (e.g. Sports Science) PLUS additional Continuing Professional Development qualifications at level 2 in the following areas: Scouting; Coaching or Talent ID. An interview with the Course Leader or Associate Dean may also be required to assess suitability.
