Course summary

The MRes Law will support you in developing an original and well-conceived PhD proposal, which you will later be able to use when seeking admission into doctoral programmes. This programme places emphasis on doctrinal, theoretical and contextual study of law. Advance your research skills with the support of experienced academics. You'll be in good company: 99% of our research is of international standing. (REF 2021, combining 4, 3 and 2* submissions – Law.) Offering ideal preparation for PhD studies, this programme will enable you to develop advanced skills in legal research methods and analysis of law and legal issues. You will be part of a very small cohort of high-calibre students, undertaking sustained training in methodological approaches to legal research. Modules

Sample modules may include: Human Rights Law, Policy and Practice, Contemporary Issues in International Law, Research Methods (Advanced), International Refugee Law, and Legal Aspects of Corporate Rescue. Check our website for more details about the course structure.


Entry requirements

IELTS: 6.5 overall with no element less than 5.5 (or equivalent). Entry requirements: Normally a good undergraduate honours degree (2.1 or above), or equivalent from a university outside the UK. Our students come with a variety of relevant legal and non-legal experience and all applicants are considered on individual merit. Pre-sessional English language programme If you need to improve your English language score, you can take a pre-sessional English course prior to entry onto your degree.
