Engage with still imagery, fashion film and new media, applying industry innovation and practice to academic study in our industry-standard facilities. What can you expect? As a BA (Hons) Fashion Photography student, you will learn the skills and techniques necessary for a professional career within the fashion media landscape aligned to contemporary shifts in industry. You will explore fashion discourse and critical theory, gaining a detailed knowledge of narrative image-making for fashion editorial, commercial, and emerging contexts. Through a combination of individual and collaborative projects, industry insights, and workshops taught by an expert team you will build a portfolio in preparation for employability and career progression. The supportive teaching environment encourages personal growth, the enhancement of digital and emerging technology skills, innovation via experimentation, and an investigation of themes central to the fashion industry today, including diversity, identity, community, and sustainability. By the end of the course, you will be fully equipped to enter the industry as a professional and original image maker with excellent contextual awareness.
- New technology: Develop the skills in digital image production, manipulation, and emerging technologies needed to navigate the evolving media landscape and explore how digital technology is shaping the demands placed on contemporary fashion image-makers.
- Conceptual focus: Learn how to develop a concept from its inception to its final execution, considering aspects like platform, format, audience, and context. You will be encouraged to engage in critical discourse surrounding fashion photography, questioning existing norms, and challenging conventional practices within the industry and broader society.
- Industry engagement: Benefit from industry connections that provide you with valuable opportunities to engage with the professional world. Hear from guest speakers from renowned fashion media outlets and collaborations with notable brands, such as Wallpaper*, Dazed and Confused, and ID magazine.
- Collaboration: Work with your peers from other Fashion Media courses, fostering cross-discipline knowledge sharing and reflecting industry practices. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside stylists, hair and make-up artists, and fashion illustrators, mirroring real-world collaborative environments.
- Customisation: Explore your creative expression and tailor your learning journey to your interests. Through elective units in Year 2 and 3, you can focus on specific areas of interest within fashion photography, developing your unique creative voice and honing skills relevant to your desired career path.
