Course summary
This course is designed to prepare students for 21st century employment within the Sports and Leisure sector in a wide range of sport exercise and coaching industries aiming to work with a range of athletes from grass roots to professional / graduate training programmes. The course will provide students with opportunities to research and learn about contemporary issues facing the industry, and society at large; with emphasis on performance, health, and physical activity and mental wellbeing. It is essential for students to understand the role that Sport and Exercise plays in addressing these issues.. In addition, students will have the opportunity to develop skills such as those of analysis, evaluation, critical argument alongside problem solving and communication skills. We encourage work experience as it is essential for students to be successful and create future employability opportunities. Students wanting to work in the sports science and coaching industry are expected to engage with employers to obtain the relevant experience required to compete in the sporting environment. This is due to the competitive nature of the sporting world and students will require more than just qualifications because of the competitive and popular nature of sport careers.

Assessment method
A range of assessment methods will be used including presentations, practical assessments, reports, essays, examinations, poster presentation and interventions. The assessment methods are designed for students to utilised relevant skills to aid in future employment or further study. Formative assessment which is used for development, includes online tasks, Q&A, group discussions in lessons and research tasks to develop academic reading and writing skills.

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
