Course summary

You can choose from Southampton’s full and part-time PhDs in a broad range of specialist areas in Medicine, including biomedicine, research in clinical environments and population-based statistical studies. Our PhDs are aimed at students who are enthusiastic about developing their careers in scientific or clinical research, and will give you the high quality training in research-related skills and professional/transferable skills enabling you to become a confident, independent researcher.

Assessment method

During your project, you will normally be supervised by a small team of academics who will be experts in your field of study. Your academic work will be supplemented by comprehensive training in research skills, statistics, critical appraisal and laboratory techniques. In addition, you will receive training in transferable skills such as communication, presentation skills and academic writing.
