Course summary

You can apply for this professional sound and music course as an MFA or MA. The MFA takes one extra year, and you can apply by choosing the MFA study option. As a postgraduate in professional sound and music, you’ll have significant opportunities to improve your knowledge of applied practice and professional research skills. With our Professional Sound and Music Master’s degree, you will: Develop sound and music projects in your area of specialism (e.g., performance, production, sound and music for media, games, or theatre). Create collaborative projects and work across disciplines Work alongside other practitioners and researchers in acting, drama, performing arts, dance, multi-media, film, animation, and architecture. Serve as creative and collaborative innovators in sound and music, demonstrating professional practices and ways of working together. Our MA Professional Sound and Music course provides a platform for both established professionals and emerging talent to expand their creative horizons.

Modules

Year 1 Core Modules: Interdisciplinary Intersections, Advanced Sound Design and Production, Advanced Music Performance, Composition and Production, Creative Technologies, Creative Project Design, Dissertation / Final Project.

Assessment method

You will be assessed through the development and delivery of live projects, applied in professional contexts appropriate to your area of specialism. Project development, outcomes, and impact will be captured and disseminated and assessed by: Interactive portfolios Literature reviews Critical evaluation Research and development repositories Presentation, workshops, and seminars Reflective journals Collaborative practice-led research All assessment is a combination of 60% practical and 40% coursework. Ongoing formative feedback will provide you with continuous support and opportunities for development and growth. For formal assessment, we aim to provide feedback in 20 working days.


Entry requirements

Accepted Qualifications Bachelor's degree with minimum Upper Second Class (2:1) or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Music Performance, Production, Sound and Music for Media, Games, Theatre. International Qualifications We accept a wide range of European and international qualifications in addition to A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications.
