The MRes Archaeology at the University of Chester offers a rewarding route into advance study, enabling you to explore a specialist topic of your choice, whilst receiving expert guidance and academic freedom. This flexible research degree is available to study either in-person on campus or via distance learning, with both full-time and part-time options to suit your existing commitments. At the heart of this MRes is a substantial, independent research project, developed and completed under the supervision of our experienced staff. Whether you’re aiming to progress towards a PhD, enhance your future career prospects, or deepen your expertise in a specific area, you’ll be supported every step of the way by leading archaeology experts. Access to outstanding facilities Located just a short distance from Chester’s historic city centre, you’ll study at our Exton Park campus where you’ll benefit from access to specialist laboratories, archaeological equipment and dedicated workrooms. All of which have been thoughtfully designed to support your research and academic development. You’ll also be well placed to take full advantage of Chester’s rich heritage environment. The city itself is steeped in archaeological significance, from its Roman origins to medieval architecture. Topics we can supervise include the history and theory of archaeology, Mesolithic archaeology, Iron Age and Roman Britain, Anglo-Saxon and Viking Age archaeology, geoarchaeology, plus many more. Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree or equivalent qualification in archaeology or any relevant discipline is required. Applicants will be required to produce up to 300 words describing their research topic, and attend an interview. Consideration will be given to those who hold a lower classification who can demonstrate they are capable of performing at the level required to complete the course successfully. To complete your application you will need to submit a project proposal.
