About this course You’ll receive a firm grounding in your foundation year to equip you to succeed in your degree. As you progress through the course, you'll learn how to solve real-world problems by understanding the human mind, and gain the skills and professional experience you need to stand out. Learn core and contemporary subjects within psychology and have the opportunity to shape your degree around your own interests and ambitions. Topics include:
  • mental health
  • developmental psychology
  • positive psychology and wellbeing
  • social psychology.
You’ll study contemporary social movements and global crises, such as Black Lives Matter, climate change and #MeToo, through a psychological lens. Skills Develop your professional skills as you study real-life applications of psychology. We offer an inspiring undergraduate curriculum, with a focus on mental health, that reflects the world we live in today. During your time with us, you’ll explore:
  • how to solve real-world problems with your knowledge of our minds and behaviour
  • research and analysis, and how to effectively communicate
  • leadership, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and how group dynamics relate to the workplace and wider society.
You’ll work on core subjects within psychology and have the opportunity to shape your degree around your own interests and ambitions. From your first year, you’ll learn about the fascinating careers where your degree will be valued and how to apply your psychological knowledge to different fields. You will also take a credited work experience module in year two to build on your CV before graduating. Our degree is professionally accredited by the British Psychological Society. Career opportunities As a BSc Psychology graduate, you’ll be in an excellent position to succeed in careers where psychology is required, including research, counselling and clinical psychology. You’ll also have the skills to succeed in a range of industries where psychology is highly valued. Teaching designed around you At Roehampton, we want to provide you with the flexibility you need while you study, and the contact time to help you succeed. We schedule our teaching across no more than three days each week. Plus, we'll confirm which days these are well in advance of the start of term, so you can plan ahead. So, if you want to have more focused personal study time, a part-time job, need to balance family commitments, or want to reduce the time you spend commuting, we’re the ideal choice for you. Modules

During the foundation year, you will take modules in English and Maths which will develop your core academic and study skills. The syllabus includes a year-long module relevant to your chosen degree subject such as An Introduction to Scientific Thinking. This will provide you with a subject specific knowledge in Psychology which is essential for success in your degree. In your first year, you will be introduced to a range of topics including child development, cognitive and biological processes, psychological research methods and social psychology. Cognitive, social, biological and developmental psychology, and research methods are taught in greater depth in the second year, along with personality psychology and abnormal behaviour. In your final year, you will undertake a year-long, supervised research project. You also have the opportunity to study diverse range of optional modules that reflect the research interests and expertise of the teaching team. Recent examples include Autism; Body Movement, Gaze and Gesture; Psychology of Music; Hands-on Cognitive Science; Neuropsychology; and contemporary developments in the discipline as a whole (eg Positive Psychology, Criminal and Forensic Psychology, Critical Psychology, Health Psychology, and Practical Creativity and Problem Solving).

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
