The BSc (Hons) Computing & Systems Development (Top-Up) degree is designed for students who have completed a foundation degree, HND or equivalent qualification and are ready to advance their expertise in application development, database management, and the integration of web and network systems. With a strong focus on emerging technologies, this program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to address modern industry challenges and innovate in the tech sector. How will I be assessed? Students will engage in practical, hands-on learning through real-world projects, industry collaborations, and problem-solving activities. The program also emphasizes professional development, preparing graduates for dynamic roles in a variety of computing environments. What can I do after completing this course? Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Computing & Systems Development (Top-Up) are well-equipped for careers as application developers, database administrators, systems integrators, IT consultants, or web and network managers. With a strong foundation in emerging technologies and systems thinking, graduates can also pursue postgraduate study or entrepreneurial ventures in the tech industry. In 2024 we were awarded an exceptional 94% National Student Survey (NSS) rating. Every university in the UK takes part in the NSS, as do many colleges. Modules
Application development: Developing advanced skills in designing and implementing robust, user-friendly software for cloud environments, with a focus on scalability and performance. Advanced Databases: Developing advanced knowledge on different ways of representing, managing and manipulating data. The introduction of a number of advanced topics including distributed data, data warehousing and online analytical processing will be covered. Web and network management: Integrating web development with network infrastructure, focusing on creating secure, responsive web applications and managing network systems to ensure seamless performance and connectivity. Emerging technologies: Using research principles and practices focusing on the exploration of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and IoT to stay ahead in the tech landscape.
