Course summary

And get to hear from guest speakers in the field such as clinical staff from local hospitals. Our programmes are informed by the latest innovation and research. With research-led teaching that builds on our long-established collaboration with external researchers across industry, the NHS and other universities. Researchers at Hull are addressing some of the major challenges in biomedical research and practice. We collaborate with clinical researchers, the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and industry to understand and tackle multimorbidities, for example. And we’ve been pioneering lab-on-a-chip technology since its inception in the 1990s.

Modules

All modules are subject to availability and this list may change at any time. Core modules: Advances in Cancer Medical Imaging and Drug Delivery Research Methods in Biomedical Sciences Diseases in Biomedicine Infection and Immunity Current Topics Research Project in Biomedicine Take part in a specifically designed research project, and put into practice what you have learned during the taught modules, the research methods module and any workshops. This module will prepare you for your next career move, by giving you relevant experience of work in the lab.

Assessment method

This programme is taught by academic staff from the School, and invited speakers such as clinical staff from local hospitals. You will be allocated a personal tutor and have regular contact with experienced researchers working in the biomedical field. Students will gain from the MSc Biomedical Sciences programme of study an in-depth understanding of the generic, biological, physiological, and cellular processes with reference to the interconnectedness between health and disease, and discussion of the possible treatments available. You will gain an understanding of the ethical and moral consequences of research in this subject area, and make use of the principles of scientific inquiry in the context of evidence-based practice. Your new knowledge will be acquired through taught lectures and your research, real-world problem solving and practical experience that will allow you to interpret and critically evaluate data within the context of biomedical science. You will also undertake a substantive research project on your chosen aspect of biomedical science.

If you require a student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level. This course requires academic IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in each skill. See other English language proficiency qualifications accepted by this University. At least a 2.1 Honours degree (or international equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences, or related degree in a life science subject. In order to ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group, if application volumes suggest that this blend cannot be achieved. In addition, existing undergraduate students at the University of Hull have a guaranteed 'Fast Track' route to any postgraduate programme, subject to meeting the entry criteria.
