This degree combines theoretical and methodological approaches from the social sciences, cultural studies and the humanities. You’ll learn from some of the most influential academics in feminist and queer studies. Sussex has a long-established reputation for research excellence in gender studies. You'll have seminars, workshops and lectures on cutting-edge research in the field from a variety of disciplines. You’ll explore the relationship between media, gender and sexuality. You’ll also explore how gender and sexuality frame, and are framed, by such issues. The degree allows you to:
- study texts drawn from a range of historical and national contexts
- interrogate historical and contemporary approaches to feminism, postfeminism, transfeminism, queer theory, ‘crip’ theory and masculinity studies
- develop an advanced understanding of gender and sexuality.

You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above. Your qualification should be in media, film or another relevant subject area. You can also apply for the course if you don’t have the academic qualifications required, but can show relevant professional/creative skills and experience.
