Course summary
Using values based approaches to promote individual strengths, mental wellbeing and independence, Mental Health Nurses support people finding it difficult to cope due to mental health problems. Students undertake practice learning experience for 50% of the course in a broad range of placements within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. These include NHS community and hospital placements as well as independent and voluntary sector experience. During these practice learning experiences students are involved in mental health nursing activities, including assessment and providing care and support for a range of patients relevant to their chosen nursing pathway. For all fields there are opportunities for international placement. On successful completion of the programme, graduates are eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Standard Qualification Requirements
A level - BC
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMP
Access to HE Diploma - M: 27 credits P: 18 credits

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 24 points
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H3, H3
Scottish HNC - Pass
Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass
T Level - Pass (C and above)
Applicants are expected to have evidence of assessed study within the last 5 years. A reference which should be relevant within the past 9 months. Applicants must be 17 by the January after their Programme starts For year 2 - HNC Care and Administrative Practice with B in the Graded Units, successful completion of a minimum of 544 hours in authorised supervised practice placement. Candidates need to obtain a minimum of 90% attendance at College and a minimum of 90% attendance at Practice Placement. Applications subject to interview and places and must be supported by the college partner.
