Course summary
This course has been created to support and nurture creative talent and will go on to provide you with the practical skills that are lacking in the industry. Modules have been developed to tackle the gaps employers have identified in specific areas and, as such, you will create projects for local businesses from within the University Centre and in the workplace. You will be provided with training in camera, sound, lighting, post-production and production management with particular emphasis on factual and narrative film and corporate media production. You will have full access to professional cameras, film and sound equipment and computers equipped with editing software. Working on a variety of productions including short film, documentary, educational, promotional and experimental video, you will experience working to ‘live’ client briefs, budgets and deadlines. Taking part in ‘live’ project briefs commissioned by local companies, with fixed production deadlines will nurture skills and experience directly relevant to your career development. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a media related employer. Previous employers have included Mersey Mirror, Keyhole Productions, Papertwin and The Climbing Hangar. Teaching staff on the course have substantial experience of working in the media industry and continue to work in the media production sector. Taking part in ‘live’ project briefs commissioned by local companies, with fixed production deadlines will nurture skills and experience directly relevant to your career development. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a media related employer. Previous employers have included Mersey Mirror, Keyhole Productions, Papertwin and The Climbing Hangar. Qualification requirements
For students entering via the optional Foundation Entry route, the following admission criteria will apply: - • Portfolio and successful individual interview. • In lieu of a portfolio, applicants may complete a project as an alternative demonstration of ability. UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered towards meeting the general entry requirements. For students entering directly onto the Foundation Degree, the following admission criteria will apply: - UK Applicants: We will normally expect applicants to evidence a number of the following; • 64 UCAS points • Two ‘A’ levels, at least one of which is in the area of media or film • BTEC Extended Diploma in Media Production, or similar • Access qualification in a related field • experience of the professional or amateur creation of media work • extra-curricular activity, such as creative writing, film or video making

Additional entry requirements
Interview
Entry onto the FdA Moving Image Production will be via a successful interview. At the interview applicants will be required to present and discuss a piece of work that displays their skills to their best advantage. This work may be one of the following: • A short moving image production OR • An article OR • A script or piece of creative writing
Portfolio
European Applicants: European applicants may not be able to attend an interview in the UK. Once the application has been processed, they should submit an e-portfolio, CD or DVD of their recent work; this will be followed by a telephone interview.

Additional Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum entry requirement for a course does not necessarily guarantee a place. Entry to all courses is subject to a successful interview. When assessing an application, we take into account your grades, predicted grades, reference and personal statement. From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition, or you may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: To gain access to some courses you may need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the University Centre and your placement provider. Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.
English language requirements
EU students, for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include: • TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4) • TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230 • Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above
