Course summary
This is a research degree, ideally as preparation for a PhD or other intensive research projects. It is like other research degrees in that it is directed investigation, both theoretical and practical, under the supervision of an assigned Director of Studies, with access to other staff, expertise and facilities on campus and/or support through blended learning. But it not a taught degree, as such - students are expected to be capable of productive self-initiated work in any design-related area of study, supported with periodic sessions with their Director of Studies. A lively peer research group and ongoing exhibitions will provide a rich learning environment. Appropriate research methods and skills will be offered, tailored to the indiviudal needs. Culmination of the 12 months will be assessed in an oral examination and inclusion in the Masters’ degree exhibition /showcase. Assistance with PhD applications will be offered to these research students if desired.
