Course summary

This joint honours BA in Education and History will expose you to the broad spectrum of topics in education which include sociological, psychological and education factors and the fascinating sweep of history from ancient times to the present day, whilst equipping you with the knowledge required to communicate your subject. This course is perfect for aspiring teachers, tutors and lecturers with a particular interest in history. Also, as long as you meet the entry requirements, you will be guaranteed an interview for Primary or Secondary PGCE at Aberystwyth. We offer you opportunities to engage with a wide variety of approaches to literature and cultural history, combining critical thinking with scholarship.You will have the opportunity to explore literary theory - philosophical and conceptual ideas that inform, challenge and question the ways we read. Our students can explore the opportunities with the School of Education’s partnerships with schools, communities across the UK and Wales. We have one of the biggest libraries in the world, the National Library of Wales, on our doorstep. This copyright institution receives a copy of every book published in the UK. The department of English Literature and Creative Writing is home to New Welsh Review, Wales’ foremost literary magazine - this could be an exciting opportunity for you to get involved. You will be immersed in a supportive and vibrant community of creative and critical thinkers, literary experts, and published scholars from every field. This degree will allow you to explore literature of all genres and from all periods within the context of the broadest possible interpretation of literature in English. You will become skilled in the interpretation and analysis of literary texts and you will engage with current critical debates. A degree in English Literature and Education is the “gold standard” for any employment setting where communication is valued. All of our modules deliver key skills that enable you to build a comprehensive C.V. that evidences your diverse range of competencies. A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Business, Psychology, Mathematics, and Science degree schemes also require a minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in Mathematics and/or Science at GCSE (or equivalent).

Additional fee information

The UK and Welsh Governments have confirmed that EU students commencing their studies in the academic year 2021/22 will no longer be eligible for home fee status. Fees for EU students will therefore be charged in line with international fees from 2021/22 onwards. Please note Irish nationals will continue to be eligible for home fee status and support by the Welsh Government under the Common Travel Area arrangement
