Course summary

Our master’s in Education Management and Leadership will equip you with the tools you need to analyse and synthesise research and policy alongside internationally recognised tutors on educational leadership and school effectiveness.

You will have the opportunity to explore the best in professional knowledge and practice, cutting edge research, and evaluation evidence in a variety of educational contexts. The ultimate aim of the programme is to develop and improve your knowledge as educational leaders so that you may impact institutional change. On our MSc Education Management and Leadership you’ll learn to:
  • engage in institutional and professional development and respond to best practice from a global perspective.
  • develop the professional skills required to meet the challenges of continuous change and its potential impact upon those who manage and lead schools, public and private sector institutions, and other teachers and educational practitioners.
  • improve your knowledge, understanding and practice as educational managers and leaders by critically analysing and synthesising national, international research and policy, plus to communicate outcomes in clear and convincing ways so as to enhance institutional performance.
You’ll join a close-knit and diverse learning community, we offer an exceptional academic experience, with small-group teaching that allows you to explore topics in depth and plenty of support to ensure you achieve your potential. You’ll graduate with the skills to analyse the challenges facing education as a clear, confident, and comprehensive educational leader.

Modules

You must study the following modules in year 1: Dissertation, Education Research: Practice and Methods, Leadership in Education, Learning and Teaching, Management in Education Organisations, and Understanding Education Research. You must also choose from the following modules in year 1: Globalisation and Education Policy or The Social context of education and lifelong learning.

Assessment method

Assessment methods may include: Essays; Oral/electronic presentations; Posters; Authored materials (e.g. an audio or video podcast, a learning resource or educational game).


How to apply

International applicants

English Language Band C: For IELTS 6.5 overall, with minimum 6.0 in all components. For information on other accepted English language tests, please see the website.

Entry requirements

You'll need a 2.1 bachelor's degree in subjects such as Education, Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology or any subject if experience of teaching/working in education or with a UK QTS or PGCE qualification. For this pathway we are also looking for some relevant experience in Management/Leadership either within an educational setting (eg School or local authority) or education background (ie degree in Education). There must be a clear rationale for choosing this programme and/or relevant background.
