Nursing at the University of Wolverhampton provides exciting, challenging opportunities to work with people, providing care across a range of diverse health and social care settings. It is a demanding vocation which requires hard work, commitment, the ability to problem solve, work independently and contribute to care as part of a team. Our nursing course adopts a person centred approach to enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to provide safe and effective nursing care. It will enable you, if successful, to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to practise as a registered mental health nurse in a variety of care settings. It will educate you to a high clinical, professional and academic standard ready to practice in the 21st century, to meet the needs of people who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. This course will build and develop your knowledge and skills as a practitioner working with people in a variety of settings working in partnership with service users and carers. The management and organisation of service provision is constantly changing and developing in line with health and social care policy. In your role as a registered nurse you will be involved with these developments working with other professionals towards continuous service improvements. Please note that although you will apply for your preferred start date due to placement capacity you are not guaranteed the date you select. We would place successful applicants on the earliest start date we have available at that time. Applicants have the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list to be pulled forward as places become available.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Provide evidence of GCSEs at grade C+ /4 in an English-based subject and Maths or equivalent qualifications (e.g. Key Skills Level 2/ Learn Direct Level 2/ Functional Skills Level 2). Successful completion of the Foundation Year (120 credits) (commenced prior to September 2020) of either BSc (Hons) Health Studies with Foundation Year; BSc (Hons) Public Health with Foundation Year or BA (Hons) Social Care with Foundation Year will enable you to apply for this course. You will also require GCSE grade C/4+ in Maths, English and Science (or equivalent qualifications) You will be guaranteed the first stage of the selection process e.g. test/interview opportunity. For further information please visit our Foundation Year webpages Evidence of digital literacy and technological literacy capability will be determined by successful completion of your application If you have other qualifications please contact the University of Wolverhampton for further advice before applying. Applicants will also be required to provide satisfactory personal statement and reference (academic or employer). During the Nursing course you will be required to attend placements, when you are asked for your choice of placement area we will endeavour to meet your request however we must emphasise that this cannot be guaranteed and therefore you must ensure you are able to travel to the final placement area you are allocated. Previous Study Please note we will not accept applicants onto our professional courses who have been unsuccessful on professional courses at other institutions of higher education This course is not available to international students who are living overseas. Applicants who are classed as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes will still be considered as long as their country of domicile is the United Kingdom. Other

Free Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health Check: Due to the professional nature of this course you are also required to complete a Declaration of Health and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. We will coordinate both of these non-academic conditions with you should you accept an offer with us. There will be no cost for the DBS this is free to applicants who have secured a Conditional offer and have chosen to study at the University of Wolverhampton. During the Nursing course you will be required to attend placements, when you are asked for your choice of placement area we will endeavour to meet your request however we must emphasise that this cannot be guaranteed and therefore you must ensure you are able to travel to the final placement area you are allocated.

Additional fee information

If you are a UK student enrolling on a full-time Foundation Degree or a Bachelor degree programme at the University of Wolverhampton in 2023/4, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s fee requirements). If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year.
