Course summary
The study of law involves the acquisition of a variety of intellectual skills. These skills will be central to understanding and critically analysing the rules and institutions which society establishes to secure and promote justice and order. In addition to being a preparation for the legal profession, knowledge of law, and the creative and imaginative powers of reasoning the study of law develops, are valued by many employers. We teach a degree programme with an emphasis on understanding law in context. In so doing we aim to encourage you to develop a broad outlook on legal issues, to gain an understanding of the functions of law and of the legal system, and to appreciate the place of rules of law in the construction of politics and society.

The LNAT is a 2¼ hour test in two sections, taken online. Section A (95 minutes): 42 multiple choice questions. The questions are based on 12 argumentative passages, with 3 or 4 multiple choice questions on each. Section B (40 minutes): Answer one of three essay questions on a range of subjects to demonstrate ability to argue economically and to come to a conclusion. For entry in September 2023 (or deferred entry in September 2024) the LNAT can be taken between 1 September 2022 and 31 December 2022. You may submit your application to LSE through UCAS before or after you take the test, however to guarantee fair and equal consideration of all applications you must submit your LNAT score to us by 31st December 2022. We cannot guarantee that scores received after this date will be considered. Please see www.lnat.ac.uk for further information.
