Course summary
Our Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE) courses are designed for learners who either: want to study for a degree but don’t yet hold the entry requirements for a full degree programme, or do not want to commit to a full degree programme at this point but would like a level 4 undergraduate qualification equivalent to the first year of a degree. This course in Sport Management has immediate career relevance and will allow candidates to better understand the sport management context and business and the ways that they could better contribute to this growing industry. The skills and knowledge which will be developed will facilitate progression into a number of roles, including those with management and decision-making responsibilities. This qualification will facilitate progression into, or development in, a number of roles, examples of which include; • Roles in sports clubs, organisations or governing bodies. • Roles in ‘back room’ sport management roles. Your UA92 degree goes far beyond the traditional academic experience. Each academic year, in addition to your four subject modules, you’ll study an extra credit-bearing module, which focuses entirely on character and personal development. You’ll get to take on a real-life project, based on a live scenario, set by one of our industry partners. You’ll experience first-hand the current issues facing the industry, get the opportunity to apply your subject knowledge, challenge your perspectives, step outside your comfort zone and build key employability skills to prepare you for your future career. These experiences are instrumental in developing transferable skills and key competencies such as leadership, resilience and well-being, communication, problem-solving and team-working. To help you track your progress and further refine your developing skill-set, you’ll meet regularly with your own personal development coach throughout years 1 & 2. A student registering for a Certificate in Higher Education can still complete a degree within 3 years.
Modules
Our industry-led approach means our leading partner organisations are integral to the UA92 experience; co-developing course curriculums and providing unique experiences for our students. Each academic year is split into 6 blocks, of which you will study for 4. In each block you will study just 1 subject module, allowing you to focus your learning. You’ll study topics in-depth, often working in small groups with academic experts and advanced practitioners. The subject modules for this course are: Year 1 (Level 4) Management and Organisations You’ll explore the business environment; understanding the internal and external forces that impact on organisations, the historical and contemporary issues affecting the management of people in organisations and the skills and attributes required to become an effective leader. Introduction to Sports Management and Marketing You’ll examine a range of concepts and theories related to sport and the provision of sport in the UK. You’ll cover a diverse range of topics such as the role of marketing and responsible management in the sports environment. Sports Finance and Economics You’ll cover the basics of business finance and the economics of professional team sports. This module will help you develop the fundamental knowledge and skills you need to become familiar with sports financial management, specifically the financial statements and economic factors within professional team sports. Introduction to Sports Events Management You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of what it takes to organise, manage and deliver memorable and successful sports events; covering event design, development and practical fundamentals as well as managing the health, safety and security of all stakeholders.
