English Language and English Literature (with Foundation Year)

Course summary

Our English Language and English Literature (with Foundation Year) option is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year which leads to the same qualification as our three-year honours degree. It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications. The additional foundation year helps you better prepare for degree-level study, giving you a taste of learning at this higher level. On successful completion, you will join Year 1 of the BA (Hons) English Language and English Literature programme. Studying English Language and English Literature not only increases your knowledge of the history and culture of the English language, but also your awareness and competence in how the spoken and written word can be used as a tool for communication creatively and professionally. Study literary texts from countries around the world, spanning different periods and genres, analysing their stylistic, formal and rhetorical properties. During the foundation year, you’ll develop essential academic and IT skills, such as writing, communication, presentation and how to use digital resources to support your studies and research assignments. ‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch.
