If you have a degree in an art and design or computer games-related subject, our arts-based course will allow you to specialise in games art at Masters level. Based in our gaming and technology hub, you'll enjoy having the latest technology at your fingertips and collaborating with other students on innovative projects. Teaching times 2023-24 (subject to change for 2024-5): Full time: Mondays 1 hour online session, Tuesdays 9am-12pm, 1pm-4pm. You’ll have the chance to work alongside postgraduate students from our MSc Computer Games Development (Computing). We’ll encourage you to work in design production teams, tackling creative and technical challenges with programmers and industry professionals. You’ll develop your design skills working on live briefs from companies such as Sony and Sumo Digital and learn how to create and publish successful games across a range of platforms. You’ll also attend exciting events including Gamebridge, hosted annually on the ARU campus. At Gamebridge, students from across the country attend industry-led talks and one-to-one portfolio reviews, whilst showcasing their work and networking with local and global studios as well as other like-minded students. The East of England has nearly 200 active games companies, with Cambridge itself home to 26 games companies including Jagex, Frontier Developments and Ninja Theory (source: ukie.org.uk’s games map January 2024). Assessment method
You’ll show your progress through a combination of written and practical work, carried out individually and as part of a team.
Entry requirements
A good honours degree (or equivalent), normally in a related subject. Applicants with professional experience are also encouraged to apply. If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
