There is also a severe shortage of power engineering expertise in other sectors, such as government bodies and finance organisations, where a detailed knowledge of energy supply and demand is increasingly important as societies develop and adapt to pressing environmental and economic constraints, dwindling reserves of fossil fuels and the emergence of new energy technologies. As the mitigation of global warming becomes ever more important, the electrification of transportation and heat as well as the accelerated penetration of renewable energy into the power grid have become main objectives in Electrical Power Engineering. The technologies studied in this MSc are the underpinning innovation forces in various industries including the electric transportation industry, aviation industry and power generation and transmission industries including renewable energy. This course will give you the knowledge and skills required for a career in electrical power engineering and is an opportunity to update your knowledge with the latest developments in renewable energy and smart grids. You will experience a variety of assessment methods, and can expect to mostly sit (online or face-to-face) examinations and complete coursework assignments.


Entry requirements

Minimum requirements A minimum 2:i undergraduate UK Honours degree or equivalent international qualification, in an engineering, physical sciences or mathematical subject. Please note that applicants will need post A2 Level (or equivalent) knowledge in Mathematics, covering topics such as linear algebra, calculus and analysis, and including differential equations. This could be gained through a mathematics module taken as part of an undergraduate course. It is expected that candidates have a good understanding of these topics at the start of their MSc studies. We are willing to consider applications from students with lower qualifications on a case-by-case basis, particularly when the applicant can evidence relevant employment, practical experience or strong performance in undergraduate modules related to their proposed postgraduate course of study. To ensure you have the essential foundations for the course, and depending on your overall academic profile, we may require you to take a mathematical skills test.
