This foundation year programme will prepare you for your future accounting and finance studies. You will gain the confidence and abilities needed to continue your education and go on to have a successful career in accountancy, finance, banking, insurance or general management positions. Our teaching is practical and career-focused, with input from our industry partners, so you'll build the expertise that employers look for. You'll develop skills in financial analysis, budgeting, risk management and much more. If you're looking to build a career in finance but need a little extra preparation before diving into a full degree, this course is designed for you. In your Foundation Year, you’ll develop key academic, digital and financial skills, covering everything from business basics to accounting systems, so you’re confident and ready for university-level study. In year one, you’ll explore the core principles of accounting and finance, including financial and management accounting, business economics and the legal and ethical frameworks that shape the profession. You’ll also sharpen your digital and analytical skills using tools like Excel. Year two lets you tailor your learning with specialist modules in areas like audit, tax, FinTech and equity analysis, while also focusing on sustainability and employability. On your placement year, you'll gain real-world experience and boost your CV. In your final year, you’ll tackle advanced topics such as environmental accounting, fraud investigation and strategic financial management, and work on a live project with an employer to prepare you for life after graduation. Assessment method
Through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials, using learning activities such as business simulations, you will develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that you'll need when you begin working. Our academics are experts in their field and work closely with industry to ensure that our courses reflect the needs of businesses. We use different assessment techniques in different modules and try to ensure all assessments reflect the types of work you will do after graduating. This may include portfolio work, multiple choice questions, group reports and problem-solving questions.
