Human Geography at University of Leicester - UCAS

Course summary

As a Human Geographer, you will learn to think critically and creatively about the world we live in. This degree combines human geography with optional modules from related subjects to provide a deep understanding of the place of geography in the contemporary social sciences. This degree is perfect for you if you want to focus exclusively on the social science elements of geography. It allows you to study human, digital and environmental geographies alongside Sociology, Politics and International Relations, and Modern Languages. By doing so you will explore pressing contemporary geographical questions like migration, environmental governance, sustainability, and to also consider them from a wider interdisciplinary social science perspective. Throughout your degree, there will be an emphasis on critical thinking and the development of a suite of quantitative and qualitative research skills. We encourage and train our students to be both critical and creative in their research approaches and methods. We use innovative teaching and assessment methods and encourage our students to reflect upon the role Human Geographers play in the modern world. This degree involves no physical geography, although some modules operate at the interface of physical and human geography (e.g. Climate Change). If you like the sound of this degree, but do not want to ignore physical geography completely (e.g. you would like to retain the option to focus on physical geography later), you should also consider the Geography BA course.
