Course summary

We provide a unique Master’s education in Materials Chemistry, offering the opportunity to carry out a 12-month research project from a selection that covers all aspects of Materials Chemistry. Optional modules enable you to gain specialist knowledge of core areas such as:

  • supramolecular and nanochemistry
  • polymer chemistry
  • inorganic materials chemistry
  • Both synthesis and characterisation are integral to the teaching around these areas.
Materials Chemistry is a key multidisciplinary area, and a growth area for both academic and industrial research. Employment prospects in this area are excellent - the programme will prepare you for a career in industrial or academic research and development, or in production or manufacturing roles. Assessment method

Transferrable skills are at the heart of the programme and these aspects are assessed by submission of a thesis, a draft scientific paper, oral presentation as well as modules on data management.


Entry requirements

Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biochemistry or other degrees with a significant element of core chemistry. Minimum classification 2:1 or equivalent OR 2:2 with two years relevant industrial experience. English requirement of GCSE grade C or IELTS 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the subtests.
