Course summary

In choosing to study Mathematics and Education you'll cover a broad spectrum of childhood development activities that include the sociological, psychological and educational facets that influence the development of children. Additionally you'll cover the fundamental syllabus of a broad-ranging degree in Mathematics. You'll be taught by enthusiastic staff and cover a range of practical, theoretical, and professional disciplines that employers in these disciplines demand. Your time will be divided equally in the School of Education and the Department of Mathematics. Your skills and abilities will be enhanced with regular exposure to team-work, communications, interpersonal, and time and work management opportunities. As this is a joint honours degree, you will be able to apply for PGCE teacher training courses at either Primary or Secondary level. Also, as long as you meet the entry requirements, you will be guaranteed an interview for PGCE at Aberystwyth. Why study Education with Mathematics at Aberystwyth University?

This course will be delivered through a programme of lectures, seminars and individual and group-based project work designed to stimulate your academic interest in mathematics and inspire you about theories of teaching and learning. By joining these two disciplines, this course will help you deepen your mathematical competence and equip you with skills vital for work in the field of education. You will be assessed through a combination of coursework, presentations, essays and examinations. A number of modules are available through the medium of Welsh. A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Business, Psychology, Mathematics, and Science degree schemes also require a minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in Mathematics and/or Science at GCSE (or equivalent).
