Course summary

Studying a Master’s degree in Childhood Studies will give you the knowledge and skills to support children and their families in a range of environments. You will develop a keen understanding of issues related to child development in contemporary society and how policy and services for children and families are planned and provided. Modules

Modules typically include: researching childhood; understanding and observing child development; children’s rights and safeguarding children and young people; child health; dissertation.

Assessment method

Students are assessed throughout their coursework (e.g. written assignments such as research projects, child observations and essays and seminar presentations) and a dissertation of approximately 20,000 words.


Entry requirements

Applicants normally require a UK 2.2 (or above) degree in a related discipline (for example childhood studies, education, psychology, sociology, mental health), or its equivalent. Applications are considered for candidates with significant relevant work experience. Applicants will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously known as a Criminal Records Bureau, or CRB, Check). Applicants may be asked to attend an interview. International applicants: - English language requirements are a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in all domains, or a University approved equivalent, prior to starting the programme. - A DBS check or an approved University equivalent
