Course summary
Develop your French and gain a thorough understanding of different cultures’ development needs on our BA French and International Development course. Study at one of the UK’s leading universities for environmental and ethical performance (the University of Reading is ranked 4th in the People and Planet University League, 2024/25). In the Department of Languages and Cultures you'll study in a lively, multilingual community with staff and students from all over the world. Learn in a student-centred environment, with small group teaching and a range of project and workshop opportunities. In the latest National Student Survey, 98% of our students said teaching staff are good at explaining things (National Student Survey 2024, 97.87% of responders from the Department of Languages and Cultures). 100% of our research is of international standing (REF 2021, combining 4, 3 and 2* submissions – Modern Languages and Linguistics). In your third year, you will go abroad to enhance your language learning and undertake a placement at the same time. New UK/Republic of Ireland students: The University of Reading will charge undergraduate home tuition fees at the upper limit as set by the UK government for the relevant academic year.
