  • 15th in England for Mathematics, Guardian University Guide 2025
  • Gain hands-on access to specialist computational tools and research-grade instrumentation in our sector-leading laboratories
  • Be career ready by gaining transferrable, professional and employability skills
  • Attend our Chemical Sciences Seminar Series and engage with speakers from academia and industry presenting material at the forefront of current scientific knowledge
In the first two years of study, we will support you in learning the core concepts in the fundamental areas of inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry, whilst developing your pure mathematical knowledge and skills to fully understand their use in a chemical context. Designed to provide you with the specialist skills you will need as a professional, modern chemist, our chemistry course includes dedicated practical and professional development modules to enhance your employability. In your second year, you'll refine your practical and professional abilities through extended problem-solving, report writing, effective communication, and teamwork. Building on your first-year mathematics foundation, you'll take two specialised mathematics modules to apply mathematical concepts to real-world chemical processes. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to customise your learning through optional modules, industry placements, or studying abroad. In your final year you will complete your education as a scientist, developing a toolkit of chemistry and mathematical skills. To align your studies to your career aspiration, you can tailor your learning by choosing optional modules, including some topics at the forefront of modern chemical sciences research. You will also have the opportunity to unleash your creativity and undertake an individual independent research project and an in-depth literature review.
