Course summary

This free module comprises of two units from the Pearson HND in Leadership and Management (HTQ) and has been developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers so students can develop the skills that employers want. The first unit is Accounting Principles will introduce fundamental accounting principles that underpin financial operations and support good and sustainable decision-making in any organisation. The second unit is Managing a Successful Business Project which offers students an opportunity to demonstrate the skills required for managing and implementing small-scale business projects. The project brief will be based on the theme of artificial intelligence provided by the Pearson the awarding body. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge in these sector-specific skills tied to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop vocational behaviours and transferable skills. Students will be able to develop and apply their own ideas to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of business situations. On achievement of the module, students will receive a Pearson certificate at Level 4 for the units completed as well as up to 30 Pearson credits and equivalent UCAS tariff points.

Modules

By the end of this module, you will be able to : Unit 1 - Accounting Principles Prepare and interpret basic financial statements for unincorporated and small business organizations in accordance with accounting principles, conventions and standards. Unit 2 - Managing a Successful Business Project Implement the project management plan (PMP) to communicate results from the research and make conclusions from the evidence of findings. Produce a project management plan (PMP) for a business project using primary and secondary research methods. Prepare budgets for planning, control and decision-making using spreadsheets. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: BTEC Higher National Diploma in Leadership and Management for England [EDEXCEL].

Assessment method

Progress is measured by assignments, work-related projects, demonstration of professional competence in work-based situations, and practical activities that apply the knowledge you have gained. There are no written exams. When not attending timetabled sessions, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This typically will involve reading articles and books, working on individual projects, undertaking preparing coursework assignments and presentations Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, the library and Canvas, the online virtual learning platform.

Qualification requirements

Students who have recently been in education are likely to need one of the following: • BTEC Level 3 qualification in Business • GCE Advanced Level profile (that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject.) This profile is likely to be supported by: GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as Math’s and English. Other related Level 3 qualifications an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution. Relevant work experience or an international equivalent to the above qualifications. Our Recognition of Prior Learning policy means that students’ previous learning and experience can be taken into account, and they may be awarded certain qualifications or units of a qualification based on that learning or experience.

Interview

We welcome applications from anyone with relevant work and experience and capable of reaching the standards required by the qualification. All students are expected to have a good standard of computer literacy. Applicants will be invited for interview to discuss their work and experience in more detail.


English language requirements

Students applying for this course that is taught and assessed completely in English will need a certain level of English language skills. Before accepting students onto a programme, we will make sure that those who are non-native English speakers and who have not carried out their final two years of schooling in English can demonstrate ability at a standard equivalent to: • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 • PTE Academic 51 • IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5)
