Course summary

From banking systems to everyday apps, secure computing underpins modern life. Walbrook’s MSc Computer Science with Cyber Security is built to give you the technical depth of computer science while also developing specialist insight into how to protect data, networks and organisations in a connected world. You’ll study a broad mix of subjects including software engineering, databases, networks, cloud computing and information systems. Alongside this, you’ll focus on cyber security through modules in secure programming, digital forensics and threat response. You’ll also explore how governance and ethics shape security practices in real organisations, and complete a research project that reflects your professional interests. Delivered fully online, this degree is designed for graduates from non-computing backgrounds who want to move into high-impact computing roles with a focus on cyber security. And at Walbrook, you can choose study full-time over 14 months or part-time over 24, supported by a clear weekly structure, career guidance and learning materials created by experts with industry experience.

Modules

On this MSc you’ll study how computer systems are designed, built and secured. You’ll cover software engineering, databases, networks, cloud platforms and information systems, while also developing specialist knowledge in areas of cyber security such as secure programming, cryptography, digital forensics and risk assessment. Alongside these technical skills, you’ll explore how virtualisation, containers, identity management and access control keep systems reliable at scale. You’ll also examine governance and ethics in relation to security, and practise applying threat modelling and incident response to real-world scenarios. Want to find out more? Assessment method

Assessments on this MSc are varied and designed to help you apply your learning using reports, project design, case studies, portfolios of work, and reflective pieces or presentations. You’ll also complete a final research project where you can explore a computing topic in depth, supported by academic guidance.

Entry requirements

This is a conversion master’s degree – designed for people who didn’t study computing at undergraduate level. To apply, you’ll need to meet the following entry requirements: A UK honours degree at 2:2 or above (or equivalent international qualification) in a subject other than computing. If you hold a non-honours degree and 2 years’ professional experience in one or more computing-related roles, you’re still encouraged to apply. We’ll review your academic and professional background on a case-by-case basis. In exceptional cases, applicants without a first degree but with more than two years’ relevant professional experience in computing-related roles may be considered.

We’re proud to offer MSc Computer Science degrees for just £7,680. That’s because it's built specifically for online delivery, using a structure that keeps things flexible, practical, and cost-effective. Many of our students cover the cost of their postgraduate degrees using a UK government Master’s Loan (if eligible), and when it comes to paying for your degree, there are 2 different ways – depending on what works best for you: 1. Pay in full upfront: You’ll receive a 15% fee reduction if you pay for your full degree in advance. This must be completed before your start date. 2. Pay per module: This option allows you to spread the cost across your studies, and the amount you’ll pay upfront depends on how you choose to study. Full-time students pay for the first two modules upfront. Part-time students pay for the first module upfront.
