The foundation year offers an innovative pathway into your degree. It is the first part of a four-year degree programme. It provides an alternative route for those unable to meet the traditional entry requirements for a three-year degree. It will prepare you for your degree studies in a supportive and stimulating learning environment. There is an increasing demand for health and social care within the UK and globally and the sector requires competent and knowledgeable contributors to shape it to ensure the best outcomes for all. BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care This programme intends to develop in students the appropriate knowledge, understanding, skills and values required of them to work, research and continue their studies in this area and other related disciplines. It will provide a range of educational experiences that enable students to work in a wide-ranging fast-moving environment within the UK and internationally. Students will have the opportunity to develop a professional approach to their work with individuals and communities. The course is rooted in the theory and the links to practice. It is suitable for those who wish to pursue a career in the Health and Social Care sector or for those who wish to progress into postgraduate study or research.

Qualification requirements
UCAS Tariff - 48 points
All students apply through UCAS for a four year named degree, which includes the Foundation year. A typical offer to students will be 48 UCAS tariff points to access the programme. However, as all applicants will be invited to interview, there is opportunity to discuss any circumstances that may have affected the accrual of level three credits. Those with considerable work and life experience of a complexity that demonstrates an aptitude to study at degree level, but with no formal qualifications, will also be accepted. Different degree pathway options available at the end of the Foundation year have different entry requirements. Whilst not a condition of entry onto the Foundation Year, students wishing to enter particular routes will need to meet these by the time they complete the year. please see the respective course pages on the Newman University website for further details.
