Course summary

If you wish to progress on to electrical/electronic technology management or gain professional recognition by progression to Incorporated Engineer Status, then our HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering will give you the qualification to do so. You also have an opportunity to continue your studies to BSc level following completion of the HNC.

Modules

To gain the BTEC Level 4 HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering qualification you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits through both mandatory and optional modules which include: • Engineering Design • Engineering Maths • Engineering Science • Managing a Professional Engineering Project • Electrical and Electronic Principles You can select three additional modules from the following optional modules: • Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers or Engineering Management • Renewable Energy or Digital Principles • Electronic Circuits and Devices or Computer Aided Design and Manufacture or Quality and Process Improvement Note: Optional modules shown represent choices available to current students. The range of modules available and the content of any individual module may change in future years.

Assessment method

All modules are assessed by assignments; each unit's assessment is matched to the content of the unit. Each unit can be assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels, which are combined at the end of the qualification to give an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Interview

All applicants are required to attend an interview and will be notified of the date and time via email, a text reminder is also sent the day before the interview. Applicants applying from outside the West Midlands alternative interview arrangements can be made for you, but we strongly encourage all prospective applicants come along to view Solihull College and University Centre’s facilities and meet the teaching teams. As part of your interview and possibly your offer you will be required to provide your original certificates, including GCSE’s or equivalents.


English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.
