Course summary
This course is designed for individuals who are interested (and passionate!) in developing a successful career in the travel and tourism industry, with progression to management. Typical job roles related to the course are within airlines, hotels, travel agencies and tour operators as well as the growing cruise, events and hospitality sectors. Individuals applying for the course should ideally be interested in progressing into a supervisory or management role in the future. Individuals should enjoy independent research as well as small class seminars.
Modules
For the Level 5 Higher National Diploma the units are as follows: Research Project (Pearson-Set) Global Events Tourist Resort Management Special Interest Tourism Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Management Cruise Management Tourism Consumer Behaviour and Insight
Assessment method
All units will be individually graded as ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. To achieve a certain grade for the unit you must meet the assessment criteria set out in the specification. You will be informed of all assessment criteria at the beginning of each new unit via the assignment brief. Some units do require the completion of timed assessment activities which are done in exam conditions but there are a range of assessm+ents for each unit which will be explained at the start of each unit. The course is 100% coursework with typical evidence including written reports and essays which will be submitted throughout the year.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
