This programme aims to provide specific higher skills and knowledge to support those entering or already in the dairy industry in Dorset and the surrounding counties, and nationally. The ability to upskill or gain current and detailed knowledge to enter the dairy sector in the UK is limited. This programme aims to fill this gap through applied and strategic skills to manage dairy enterprises effectively. The programme will develop skills in three linked areas for good agricultural management: Managing the Herd – Health, Welfare, Nutrition and Breeding Business Skills – Procurement, Workforce Management, Marketplaces Sustainability & Innovation – Technology, Diversification, Data Management, Future Proofing

Year 1: Dairy Herd Fertility Promoting Herd Health and Welfare Introduction to Business Skills Good Environmental and sustainable practices Forage Crop Production Herd Nutrition and Feeding Study and Research Skills Bovine Anatomy and Physiology Year 2: Sustainable Resource Management Technology, Innovation and Maintenance Genetics and Genomics Research Project Strategy and Planning for Rural Business Welfare, Inspection and Accreditation
Assessment method
The programme uses a range of assessment methods such as reports, presentation and practical assessments. The programme uses an authentic assessment approach. Tasks will mirror industry focused activities such as protocols, welfare assessments, business plans and management plans.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
