Our PGCE in Secondary Education (Mathematics) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is designed to develop confident, creative, and reflective teachers who are ready to make a difference in the classroom from day one. This university-based course combines two school placements with dynamic, research-informed university sessions. You’ll explore how to teach for deep understanding, tackle common misconceptions, and use a wide range of manipulatives and visual representations to bring abstract concepts to life. Assessment method
Continuous assessment of classroom skills and teaching effectiveness builds towards a professional development portfolio. There are also written and practical assignments with opportunities for Master's level credits in the postgraduate version.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

QUALIFICATIONS: • An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2 or above in a relevant subject • In addition, you will need: GCSE Mathematics, GCSE English Language and GCSE Science all at grade 4/C. Equivalent qualifications may be considered. APPLICATION AND SELECTION: • Suitable applicants will be required to attend an interview/selection day. • Applicants will also be required to: Provide an academic or professional reference, Complete a Suitability Declaration, Pass an Occupational Health check, Pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
