Course summary

The foundation year of this Coventry University degree will be delivered from our CU Coventry campus. Course delivery from year 1 of the degree course onwards will be from Coventry University campus. This course aims to provide you with a solid grounding for a career as an architectural or building technologist. The foundation year will introduce you to the world of business with a sharp focus on aspects of management, business communications and marketing in a global context. The foundation year creates opportunities for students to develop key business skills and to put theory, both traditional and contemporary, into practice with real-world scenarios. Students who successfully complete their foundation year will then progress onto the Architectural Technology BSc (Hons) degree within Coventry University’s School of Energy, Construction and Environment. The degree aims to prepare you in seeking future employment in architectural practice, city and urban planning. You will learn the practices behind interior design, builders and contractors, oil and gas developments together with many other areas and specialisms. Key benefits of the degree

The foundation year introduces key business skills to give you a solid knowledge base from which to build. Modules include:

On successful completion of your foundation year you will progress to the first year of the degree course. In this first year, the curriculum is shared across related courses allowing you to gain a broad grounding in the discipline before going on, in the second and third years, to specialist modules in your chosen field. First year modules include:

  • Construction technology and environmental sciences
  • Spatial design and visual communication
  • Professional skills development
  • Project and cost management
  • Sustainable environments
In year two, you will continue to develop the skills and knowledge you’ve learnt. We do this by embedding technical, global and professional skills. Key modules include:

  • Sustainable environments in society: developing solutions
Placement Year There’s no better way to find out what you love doing than trying it out for yourself, which is why a work placement can often be beneficial. Work placements usually occur between your second and final year of study. They’re a great way to help you explore your potential career path and gain valuable work experience, whilst developing transferable skills for the future. If you choose to do a work placement year, you will pay a reduced tuition fee of £1,250. For more information, please go to the fees and funding section of our website. During this placement time you will receive guidance from your employer or partner institution, along with your assigned academic mentor who will ensure you have the support you need to complete your placement. Final Year Your final year aims to bring you to the level needed to enter the world of work by consolidating your knowledge and skills from previous years and culminating in comprehensive architectural design and development projects.
